It makes my life fuller to volunteer at the Food Pantry. It’s a joy to be able to help others who are in need! Thanks for the opportunity to aid the community directly, and spend time with nice people while doing so.

OUR MISSION

The Corner Food Pantry is a non‐denominational charity offering one of the most basic human needs — nutritious food.

All of our funding comes from private sources — our friends, neighbors, faith-based organizations, foundations, churches and schools. Our administrative expenses remain low because we are an all‐volunteer organization, so we can spend the private donations we receive to provide food for the hungry.

Clients receive three days of food for each family member

  • Family size determines the amount of food provided

  • Every household is required to register by giving their name, family size, town, and phone number

HISTORY

The Corner Food Pantry and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, now under the direction of Saint Martin of Tours Parish Corporation in Hartford, have a long-standing relationship. In 1990, St. Mary’s offered the Older Women’s League (OWL) the use of their annex building at 80 Sharon Road (Route 41), two doors up from the church and the current location of The Corner Food Pantry, for the purposes of setting up a food pantry. The food pantry was originally called OWL’s Kitchen. In 2013, OWL’s Kitchen changed its name to The Corner Food Pantry and was granted 501(c)(3) status. Since its inception, The Corner Food Pantry has been an organization run solely by volunteers.
